Faculty Biosketch

Jonathan "Adam" Alford has nearly 30 years of continued EMS certification in Virginia. His many roles include rural volunteer EMS, critical care interfacility transport, high-volume urban EMS, and in-hospital. He has held numerous management and leadership positions during his tenure.

While in college, Adam enjoyed teaching and tutoring students in biology and chemistry. In 2011, Adam put these talents to use to become a Virginia EMS Education Coordinator and began teaching EMT courses. While he continues to practice as a paramedic in the field, he transitioned to a full-time educator in 2013 as the Training Director for the Old Dominion EMS Alliance in Richmond, VA before becoming the Paramedic Program Director at Piedmont Virginia Community College. During his over 12-year career as an educator, Adam has taught initial EMT, AEMT, paramedic, and, numerous CE courses throughout Virginia to countless providers. In 2020, Adam was awarded the ODEMSA Regional Award for Outstanding Prehospital Educator.

Adam holds a Bachelor's degree in molecular biology from James Madison University and a Master's degree in EMS Leadership from Creighton University. He is a volunteer with Goochland County Fire Rescue assigned to Station 5.
