Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an instructor-led course that uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
Prerequisites
Must be able to read and interpret EKG rhythm strips and have a working knowledge of medications commonly used in resuscitation.

PALS Advanced Life Support - Renewal
This one-day course is intended for those who need renewal or update competencies in Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Focuses on the advanced life support management of critical pediatric with respiratory, shock, or cardiac conditions.

Must be able to read and interpret EKG rhythm strips and have a working knowledge of mediations commonly used in resuscitation. Must have a current PALS Provider card.

Format
Traditional Renewal - a one-day course that completes all required content in a face-to-face delivery method.

HeartCode PALS Advanced Life Support
HeartCode PALS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s PALS Course. HeartCode blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace. Providers first complete the online portion of HeartCode PALS and then complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA PALS Instructor or a HeartCode compatible manikin.

PALS Advanced Life Support - Instructor
The PALS Instructor Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended learning PALS Provider courses. It educates instructor candidates on how to use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offers student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follows AHA Instructor and course policies.

Current PALS certification
Instructor Potential as determined by Training Center Faculty
Healthcare license or certification where all content is within the scope of practice

Pre-course work and course requirements
Students must complete the PALS Instructor Essentials Online before the in-person class session.
After the class, the student must be successfully monitored in teaching sections of an in-person PALS course.
Instructor Requirements
To renew, instructors must teach a minimum of four PALS courses in the two-year certification period.
