Purpose

To prepare students to be knowledgeable, competent, entry-level, pre-hospital care practitioners and fill positions at the level of Paramedic.

Program Goals/Objectives

  • Document and communicate the relevant patient information to the receiving facility.
  • Assess and initiate appropriate medical care for an adult, pediatric or geriatric patient of a medical or traumatic emergency under regional protocols or online medical control.
  • Demonstrate the ability to reassess and modify the patient’s treatment as needed by changes in the patient’s condition.

  • Document in writing the assessment and treatment of patients.

Program Sponsorship

The Paramedic Program is sponsored by the VCU Health System, effective Jan 1, 2022.  This does not change our Accreditation.

Benefits:

  • Paramedic students no longer enroll in the university.
  • This affords greater flexibility in offering courses as we are no longer on the academic semester schedule.

Drawbacks:

  • Paramedic courses are no longer awarded college credit through the University. However, we have an agreement with Reynolds Community College to award comparable credits upon completion of the National Registry Paramedic certification.
