Information for BLS Courses
General Course Information
Course Start Time
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of your scheduled session. Late students may not be admitted and your registration will be forfeited.
Participation
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting. If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please tell one of the instructors when you arrive for the course. The instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements. In the event that you are ill, please notify your instructor to reschedule your training.
Duration of the Course
Please expect to say the entire time listed on the course materials.
Course Locations
Courses are typically offered on the MCV Campus at Nelson or at the VCU Health Parham building. Please play close attention to the location when signing up, as there may be some variations to these.
VCU Health Nelson Clinic
For courses at the VCU Health Nelson Clinic, use the address 401 N 11th St, Richmond, VA 23219. EPD is located on the 2nd floor of the Nelson clinic.
VCU Health Parham Road Building
For courses at the VCU Health Parham Road Building, use the address 7818 E Parham Rd, Richmond, VA 23294. From the lobby, follow the signs to your course.
Pre-course Work
Instructor-Led Courses: At this time, there is no specific pre-course assignment required for instructor-led courses.
HeartCode: This course has 2 components: an online portion and an instructor-led classroom portion. You must complete the online portion first and you must print the certificate of completion at the end of the online portion. If you do not have your certificate of completion when you arrive for class, you will not be able to attend the course and your registration will be forfeited.
Help with HeartCode
If you are taking a HeartCode BLS course, a key to the online course will be sent to your work email 7 days before the course.
If you do not see the email:
- Ensure that the course is 6 or less days away.
- Check your spam/junk inbox. The email will come from the AHA eLearning site.
- Try logging into the AHA eLearning site with your work email (if it is the first time you have log into that site with your email address, you will need to create an account before proceeding). When you log into the eLearning site, you should see the HeartCode course assigned to you.
- If you still do not see your assignment, email Barbara.Fujita@vcuhealth.org (try 1 and 2 before emailing).
